How am I going to involve five community organizations in the planning process and still address the needs of this medical center?
In order to answer this question, Tom and the committee need to gather relevant information on the community organizations entailing their weaknesses, strengths, how they have influenced other policies and ordinances and their roles in advocating for community interests. The gathering of the above information will be crucial in strategizing how to engage them in the strategic planning efforts of the university. They can consider the organizational needs and the manner in which other health care settings have engaged these organizations in the past. Moreover, information on the weaknesses of the organization can be adopted to determine whether the WUMC can leverage them to strike a favorable deal with the community organizations. Lastly, the committee and Tom could seek for advice from other facilities that may have engaged with the organizations in the past so as to formulate a strategy to counter them.
