DNP 835 Reflecting on the “IHI Module PS 101: Introduction to Patient Safety,” summarize why it is essential to improve patient safety
I agree with you that patient safety is the avoidance of mistakes and unfavorable consequences to patients connected to health care. Patients assume that healthcare organizations will guarantee them safety. However, other healthcare facilities compromise their patient safety. For instance, incompetent healthcare workers compromise patient safety due to their increased chance of erring. Healthcare providers have been working on promoting patient safety. The introduction and the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) has promoted patient safety (Hessels et al., 2019). Factual information prioritized in EBP reduces the chances of making wrong clinical mistake. It is important to improve patient safety to reduce morbidity and mortality, reduce the financial effect of patient harm, and loss of income, and minimize problems related to unsafe practices. Improving patient safety is a collective commitment among healthcare stakeholders (Lee et al., 2019). Different players have specific role in promoting patient safety. The Framework for Safe, Reliable, and Effective Care engages patients and their families in promoting patient safety.
