Answer 2 for NURS 8210 Week 11: Evaluating Health Information Technology Systems
Yes, the evaluation of Health information technology provides a framework which can be used to assess the aims, skills of data analysis and procedures to be used in healthcare. The common approach which can be used in the process of evaluating HIT is socio-technical approach. It evaluates the social practices in the organization as opposed to the technology. It is important to note that HIT evaluation focuses on health systems which are different to healthcare evaluation. Healthcare evaluation focuses on how to improve overall healthcare. The strategies of evaluating HIT can be viewed in three dimensions that is the mechanism, domain and timing (Jones, Rudin, Perry & Shekelle, 2014). HIT outcomes can be defined using the domain dimension. The timing factor is applicable in the time required to develop, design and implement the system. The main problem is the complexity in terms of evaluation scope and analysis levels.
