Answer 3 for NRS 445 Compare the differences and similarities between two of the three types of qualitative studies and give an example of each
Of the three types of qualitative research methods, two that can easily be compared are grounded theory and phenomenology research. These types of research methods focus on the questions rather than the numerical data.
The difference is that phenomenology uses lived experiences and the researchers that use ground theory use as much data as possible like interviews, diaries, previous literature.
Grounded theory research is described as the collection and analysis of data from interviews and/or observation (Falkner et al.). an exapmle of a grounded theory research method would be a hospital wanting to conduct a studt to find out why so many healthcare workers are leaving causing a high employee turnover rate.
Phenomenology research is used to study people via their experiences, this is where the data is conducted by interview and words are analyzed (Falkner et al.). This type of research allows the interviewer to give greater focus to the topic. An example of phenomenological research that I found was an article about how nursing students perceive moral distress in the end of life setting. They used 17 students and identified eight themes that caused the students distress (Gandossi et al.).
